What Is Cerakote? Your Top Cerakote Questions Answered.

We create custom Cerakote applications for firearms and specialty products. We often get questions about Cerakote, including ‘What is Cerakote?’ and we thought we’d put together some answers for you. You can learn more about our Custom Cerakote process by requesting more information or placing a custom order.

What Is Cerakote?

Cerakote is a ceramic-based thermoset composite coating that is applied to the surface of firearms, knives, and specialty products like tumblers, and computer parts. It provides a protective finish and can be subjected to high temperatures without the risk of being melting off. The Cerakote brand is composed of multiple color selections.

Why does it work so well?

Cerakote has a unique chemical composition that gives it durability and strength. The application process is done by our in-house factory-trained and certified Cerakote applicators to ensure the right coverage and thickness. Cerakote is applied by paint gun and it can be applied to both metal and polymer surfaces. The finish of the coating provides for a smoother feel than other coatings with a matte or gloss texture.

How is Cerakote applied?

Cerakote is applied using a traditional paint gun. This creates a hard coat layer that has corrosion-resistant, scratch-resistant, and chemical-resistant properties. We apply our Cerakote in-house and application is performed by our factory-trained and certified Cerakote applicators.

How long does the Cerakote application process take?

The Cerakote process can be completed in as little as a week, but our workflow and specialty project orders can lead to longer turnaround times. Contact us for our current turnaround times and estimated times for your project.

How long does Cerakote last?

If you’re concerned about how long Cerakote lasts, don’t be! It will last for years on metal and plastic surfaces with proper care. Cerakote is corrosion-resistant, scratch-resistant, and chemical-resistant, which creates high durability. Of course, the biggest factor in how long your Cerakote will last is how you use your product, firearm, or piece of equipment with the Cerakote coating.

How much does Cerakote cost?

Our Cerakote Min charge is $35, but traditionally projects range from $100-$750. We’ll provide an estimate for your Cerakote project.
